Community Garden Oddment - Wetlands #35
Fairy Wren gets Friendly With Mud Crab is the title of this new piece from my latest Community Garden Art Project, Wetlands.
Wetlands is all about discovering what lives in and around our nearest or favourite body of water. From backyard ponds to coastlines, from mangroves to bogs, this first Wetlands project has had people out in nature, exploring what animals, plants and insects live and thrive and struggle in their local waterways.
This unique hand-stencilled piece features endangered Bell Frogs, a Superb Fairy Wren, Mud Crabs, a Water Dragon, a water strider, a mosquito, frog spawn, waterlily and various ferns and sedges. Every motif is based on the drawings that Community Gardeners have sent me from wetlands around Australia.
This piece was an extra from the ten metre print run I created in October on a residency attached to the exhibition The River, Our Mother: Baaka Ngamaka’Inana. It is ready for you to embellish with gloriously imperfect slow stitching which, once finished, will then be a creation of your own making, in collaboration with me. You might want to frame it and hang on a wall, or turn into a cushion cover, or maybe a beautiful bag.
The ideas are endless really.
