COVID-19 has altered everyone's experience of time and space, but not to the same degree. The physics of iso depend a great deal on our different circumstances. For some of us, especially the introverts, it's been pretty good. Living in my house in the bush, I had plenty of space and fresh air, and I enjoyed the expansive solitude.

The lockdown experience was very different for people under police surveillance, sardined in the residential towers in North Melbourne. Similarly, at Quarantine Station the gravedigger, the third-class passengers and ‘Asiatics’ did not enjoy the privileges of the first and second class, though at least they all got to experience the salty air and big skies above Sydney Harbour.

These ready-to-hang house portraits highlight how the economic inequities of quarantine have continued into the 21st century.
