Lyrebird
The original artwork, made using my favourite process, cut paper stencils, was made in 2017 when I was Artist in Residence at The State Library of NSW.
The other day I came across that original artwork safely stored in my old plan chest and thought it would be make a great digital print.
The Lyrebird (aka Menura Novaehollandiae) is an excellent native bird we see almost daily at our place in Blackheath, generally just scratching around the dead logs for worms and insects. But in winter they start singing their amazing songs, mimicking about 10 different local birds all in the same nonstop song and shaking their magnificent tail feathers in order to get themselves a girlfriend. Remarkable effort!
